Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion is looking for a professional individual who will coordinate the City’s efforts to comply with and carry out its responsibilities under the American with Disabilities Act, as amended. The duties and responsibilities of the ADA Coordinator shall be to coordinate the City’s efforts to comply with and carry out its responsibilities under Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act, Rehabilitation Act, Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), and other codes and laws governing and supporting people with disabilities.

SALARY - Commensurate with education and experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Planning and Coordination of ADA Compliance Projects

  • Work with City departments, independent licensed architects, city contracted businesses and IT consultants to plan and coordinate projects to ensure access to City facilities and programs including building improvements and alternative technology implementation
  • Develop project timelines
  • Collaborate and consult with the Mayor’s Executive Director for the Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities
  • Consult with budget staff to develop project cost estimates and budgets

ADA Complaint Management

  • Develop internal procedure for filing, responding to and investigating ADA related complaints
  • Receive, provide assistance and investigate ADA and relative complaints

Internal Review

  • Review City programs, policies, activities, services and facilities for ADA compliance
  • Work with affected departments to develop and implement plans to bring identified violations into compliance
  • Provide assistance with Reasonable Accommodation by City employees and constituents

  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act, Rehabilitation Act, Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), and other codes and laws governing and supporting people with disabilities and its compliance requirements
  • Critical thinking skills to consider relative costs and benefits of actions and choosing the most appropriate one
  • Project management skills to organize project time frames and schedules to meet competing deadlines
  • Analytical skills to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Ability to utilize MS Office Suite software to track, analyze, interpret, and communicate business information 
  • Self-motivated; ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Valid driver’s licenses 
  • Ability to utilize necessary investigative tools to determine compliancy
  • Compensation is commensurate with background and experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in architecture, engineering, public administration, business administration, urban planning, communications or other closely related field thorough experience in developing and implementing employer-based compliance and accommodation programs mandated by federal and State laws, including the Americans With Disabilities Act; and considerable training experience.
  • Experienced with diversity and inclusion related issues and literature
