Company Description

The primary objective of the Digital Communications Intern is to support the Kenney Administration’s work to make sure city government delivers efficient, effective services to all Philadelphians.

The work done in the Digital Communications office ranges from constituent services, like responding to people reporting potholes or nuisance properties on Twitter, to communications strategy, like developing a plan to communicate Mayor Kenney’s vision for Philadelphia using blogs.

The ideal candidate will work out of City Hall in Center City for 10-15 hours per week on a set schedule. City Hall is accessible by all modes of SEPTA’s transit system, including buses, trolleys, and subways.

Job Description

Responsibilities
• Assist digital communications team with administrative responsibilities, including heavy
use of Excel/Google Sheets and organization of constituent services on social media
• Assist Digital Director, Content Director, and Digital Assistant with organizational
systems for photographs, analytics, and other data
• Assist digital communications team with research on news, history, public figures, and
occasionally pop culture trends
• Generate original photography for City and Administration for use on social media
channels
• Attend press conferences and occasionally gather content in the field at press events or
otherwise
• Assist Digital Director, Content Director, and Digital Assistant with social media
copywriting and fact-checking
• Generate infographics and graphics in general to promote agenda of Kenney
Administration


Qualifications

• Robust experience using social media as a user, familiarity with big three platforms
(Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook)
• Experience taking photographs (using a smartphone or a DSLR)
• Strong writing and reading skills. Familiarity with AP Style, news reporting, or
personal/lifestyle blogging a plus but not necessary
• Attention to detail; a careful and thorough writer. Organized and can meet deadlines
• Graphics skills are a plus; high degree of computer literacy and ability to learn new apps
or programs a must
• Ability and willingness to show up at a regular, set time on scheduled days
• Experience and familiarity using PC platforms

This is an open, competitive, unpaid internship. 

We have great flexibility regarding which days and times during the week the internship is scheduled; we just ask that the schedule be regular and set. The intern must work on-site.
