However, this position will require applicant to be available to work in a rotational on-call, after-hours capacity and to work weekends and holidays whenever necessary to support the 24/7 operation of the Police Department. Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Infrastructure Solutions, this position will be responsible for administration & implementation to the future state of the San Francisco Police Department’s state of the art infrastructure in support of the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) compliant records management system (RMS).

This role requires solid understanding and knowledge in administration & implementation of hardware, software, virtualization & provisioning workloads in cloud and on-premise infrastructure. With NIBRS implementation, this role will require technical skills to provisioning and maintenance of on-prem, hybrid and cloud instances of SFPD’s footprint.

This position will plan, implement, maintain and coordinate upgrades/updates/fixes for core operating systems and their related components for on-premise, hybrid cloud environments at SFPD. With an emphasis on cybersecurity, you will be the lead engineer to do vulnerability assessments from start to finish on a new RMS platform & other systems as needed.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties in:

  • Design, plan, install, test, integrate, implement, document, maintain and enhance the physical and logical components of a large complex system of virtual servers, virtual server platforms and storage as well as third party cloud offerings (Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud) and hybrid, on-premise & cloud platforms. This will involve the analysis and evaluation of systems software, hardware with focus on risk assessment & security.
  • Support systems, hardware, and networks to ensure department maintains a supportable and reliable infrastructure that is CJIS-compliant.
  • Lead vulnerability assessments from start to finish, identifying the root cause and fix issues by introducing & implementing technologies to collect analytics and prevent/mitigate any cyber-attacks.
  • Work with Department Information Officer (DISO) to remediate any (Windows/Linux servers, databases, and websites), troubleshooting with the client to resolve network and scan related issues & analyzing the results to remove false positives before creating and delivering a final report.
  • Assist DISO with Cybersecurity Risk Analysis (CRA) for new & existing software, hardware & services for on-premise and cloud-based solutions. Assist with getting compliance for SOC 2 reports.
  • Work closely with external security organization to constantly monitor security threats and defense. Work on identifying and developing processes and controls to protect connected platforms from cyber threats.
  • Leverage server automation through use of utility tools, scripts and/or batch files, maintain records of systems security documentation for annual city cyber security audits.
  • Act as a liaison between vendors, technical support providers and departments to resolve complex systems security problems. Coordinate and implement corrective measures; this may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote systems and/or systems/network management.
  • Assure proper planning, engineering, documentation, installation and testing of systems implemented for monitoring & mitigating risk such as FireEye, Tanium, etc.
  • Participate and support the Department’s Emergency Management Role in Citywide events.

Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

1.    Education: An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field]. AND,

2.    Experience: Five (5) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components of an enterprise network.

Substitution: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/ forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience in building hybrid cloud and integration of private and public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Experience with server virtualization platforms – VMware and experience with operating system (Windows and Linux)
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure system services (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, DFS/NFS, NTP, SSL, etc.)
  • Datacenter Server implementation and operation expertise (Racks, UPS, Cable management, out-of-band, etc.)
  • Experience in hardware monitoring
  • Experience in Enterprise Storage and Backup technologies - Data Domain, Hot and Cold - Cloud Backup Solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear, concise and professional manner.
