We are seeking an energetic, service-oriented individual who is a team player and thrives in a fast-paced office environment.  The Accounting/Customer Service Representative will be responsible for a wide range of customer service and accounting support functions in the Public Services Division of the Finance Department.  Programs administered by the Public Services Division include processing utility bills, business licenses, parking citations, and other accounting and customer service functions related to revenue collection.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Prepares water and wastewater utility accounts and generate billings
  • Conducts research to resolve problems; makes adjustments, performs edits and issues corrected billings
  • Handle a high volume of customer interactions by telephone and in person
  • Research issues and provide information to the public
  • Process payments and issue licenses and permits
  • Review and process parking citation appeals and payments
  • Balance daily cash receipts
  • Monitor, prepare, maintain and verify financial documents and records

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • 2+ years customer service experience working with a high volume of calls and in-person interactions
  • Working knowledge of billing, collections, and financial recordkeeping
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent judgment, flexibility, and initiative
  • Outstanding attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
  • Cash handling and/or cashiering experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Class C California driver’s license
