Library Assistant II-Part Time (25 hours/week)

Schedule:

  • Sundays:  Off
  • Mondays: Off
  • Tuesdays: 11 am - 3 pm
  • Wednesdays: 12 pm - 8:15 pm
  • Thursdays: 12:45 pm - 8:15 pm
  • Fridays: 12 pm - 6:15 pm
  • Saturdays: Off   

Location: 9200 113th St N, Seminole, FL 33772, USA

This position has a starting pay range of $14.4603/hour - $15.1833/hour. D.O.E.

The entire salary range is $14.46 to $21.69/hour. 

The part-time Library Assistant II is a paraprofessional library position that involves public service, clerical, and technical services tasks. Most of the work week will be spent at the Circulation desk, interacting with patrons during library transactions. The position also has scheduled off-desk time for technical service tasks such as material repair and processing. In the absence of the Circulation Supervisor and Library Assistant III, the Library Assistant II may be called upon to assist coworkers in library transactions. Applicants should be comfortable multi-tasking in a customer-forward department with patrons of varied demographics, have strong communication skills, and be effective problem-solvers. Additional responsibilities include cash handling, material reports, and shelving.  

Essential Position Functions (include, but are not limited to):

  • Professionally and courteously, assists patrons in person and on the telephone by creating and maintaining library patron accounts, checking in and out library materials and, providing general library information and services, directing patrons to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Handles cash and credit card transactions, including balancing the cash register at the close of business by established procedures.
  • Assists Librarians with record-keeping.
  • Compiles maintains, and reports statistics as directed. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the library collection, including general reference and digital resources 
  • Assists with unlocking and locking program rooms when users arrive and depart.
  • May assist in training new employees in the Circulation Section as assigned by the Circulation Supervisor.
  • Tracks service desk and workroom supplies; informs appropriate staff when supplies are needed.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, and training opportunities appropriate to the position.
  • Performs technical tasks requiring special skills, knowledge, or training, such as book repair and processing.
  • Performs other job-related duties that are consistent with assigned Division responsibilities.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and one year of previous customer service experience.  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.  Proficient in the use of computers.  Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a clear and courteous manner to the public and other staff members.  Ability to work a specific daily work schedule. 

Preferred qualifications/skills: 1+ yr. in a customer service-driven position

Desired skills: 1+ yr. relevant experience in a library setting.
