Job Description

ABOUT THE CCRB:
The Civilian Complaint Review Board (“CCRB”) is charged with investigating, mediating and administratively prosecuting complaints that members of the public file against New York City police officers involving the use of force, abuse of authority, discourtesy, or offensive language, and false official statements. The Board consists of 15 members who are selected by the Mayor, the City Council and Public Advocate, and the NYPD Commissioner. The Board is responsible for governing the agency and adjudicating the cases that come before it. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency. As the largest police oversight agency in the United States, the CCRB currently investigates approximately 4,500 complaints each year.

Working under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Special Operations and the Director of NYPD Relations and with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the NYPD Document Request Specialists’ duties include, but are not limited to the following:

- Regular communication with CCRB investigators to determine the range of documents and other evidentiary materials they need to obtain from NYPD;
- Submitting requests for documents and other evidentiary materials to the NYPD.
- Monitoring NYPD’s progress toward fulfilling requests for documents and other evidentiary evidence, and proactively following up with designated NYPD liaison(s) when requested items have not been provided in a timely manner.
- Reviewing documents and evidentiary materials provided by NYPD to ensure that they are responsive to the request(s) and that they are complete.
- Expeditiously download documents and evidentiary materials received from the NYPD into CCRB’s Case Tracking System (CTS) so that investigators can access them.
- Troubleshoot and/or assists investigative staff in resolving problems related to document requests.
- Respond to inquiries from NYPD related to request for documents and other evidentiary materials.
- Collect, prepare and deliver documents in response to NYPD requests.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all requests CCRB submits to NYPD and requests NYPD submits to CCRB.
- Responds to inquiries from CCRB investigators, Investigative Division Leadership, and senior staff, executive staff, or Board members related to document requests.
- Assist investigators to ensure that witnesses have an opportunity to documents and evidentiary materials necessary to conduct witness interviews.
- As needed, assist with coverage of the agency’s Reception Desk and/or MOS Desk.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor at all times.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as may be periodically assigned by the Deputy Chief of Special Operations, Assistant Deputy Chief of Special Operations and the Director of NYPD Relations.

This is a full-time position. Candidate will be expected to be available to work week days from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, although tour hours may be adjusted to meet Agency and Division needs.
