Job Description
The Pension Payroll Unit processes and issues more than 56,000 monthly benefit payments to retirees and beneficiaries while ensuring compliance through the review and maintenance of payroll records, processing new retiree enrollments, and administering payroll, tax, and other benefit-related updates.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Pension Payroll Unit, this candidate will be responsible for performing work as described below. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Verify the accuracy of benefit calculations and deductions to ensure timely and accurate payments to retirees and beneficiaries;
- Maintain and update payroll and pension records in databases and related systems, ensuring data accuracy and completeness;
- Perform administrative support functions, including preparing, proofreading, and imaging documents and correspondence;
- Communicate with retirees, beneficiaries, and City agencies to obtain and provide pension-related information;
- Finalize benefit calculations based on actuarial reports;
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of required forms and supporting documentation;
- Assist with the administration of the Banked and Retired VSF programs, including the annual distribution of approximately $500 million in benefits;
- Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries professionally, providing accurate information and referring matters to appropriate staff when necessary;
- Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned by the Unit Supervisor.

Candidates must be permanent or reachable on a viable civil service list in the Clerical Associate title to be considered for this position unless you are applying through the 55-a program.

Salary: The hiring rate being offered for this position is $47,000. If you possess the preferred skills above, consideration will be given to offer you a maximum annual salary of no more than $50,000. The salary is non-negotiable.

Additional Information

NOTE: This is a full-time on-site position where you will be required to report to the office five (5) days a week for training purposes. After successfully completing training, you may be considered for telework.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
