Job Description
The Office of Street Vendor Services (SVS) at SBS is advancing economic justice by serving as a central hub for citywide street vendor education and assistance within SBS. Together with street vendors, interagency partners, community-based organizations, and local stakeholders at the table, SVS is building a more vibrant and equitable street vending ecosystem across the five boroughs.
The Department of Small Business Services seeks a dynamic and dedicated Deputy Director for the Office of Street Vendor Services to serve in a leadership role on New York City’s first-ever dedicated team supporting street vendors, which is part of the agency’s Executive unit. This role is responsible for working with the Executive Director to operate the new office to develop and deliver education, outreach, programs, and execute intra-and-interagency coordination for food and general vendors citywide. The Deputy Director will help street vendor small businesses and neighborhood stakeholders access the full suite of SBS services and work one-on-one to build awareness and programmatic pipelines directly in communities with the most need across the five boroughs. The Deputy Director will ensure consistent and strategic public engagement through high-quality community-based events, partnerships and management to help drive the agency’s outreach efforts.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Oversee external outreach partners including contract management, project management, training, data collection, tracking and reporting.
- Liaise with interagency partners to build a more vibrant and equitable street vending ecosystem
- Develop and execute the Office of Street Vendor Services’ community partnership and engagement strategy
- Maintain, update, and grow the agency’s community partners database
- Lead community partners communication to share business-related news, updates, or action items
- Develop accessible, multilingual educational materials to inform street vendors of their rights, responsibilities, and opportunities
- Educate stakeholders on SBS services and resources, including through public presentations
- Help drive the planning and on-site execution of large- and medium-scale events and outreach efforts
- Oversee data collection, analysis, and tracking towards goals in order to inform strategic outreach decisions
- Assist management with operational support including development of new processes, templates
- Manage special projects/events, as needed
- Work collaboratively with SBS Divisions (Outreach, Business Services, Workforce Development, Neighborhood Development, Economic and Financial Opportunity, and Industry Partnerships) as well as the Intergovernmental Affairs, Communications, Facilities, and Procurement units

Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and at least 5 years of combined full-time experience in any of the following: leading or managing business development activities; providing external business development, strategic planning, or management consulting services to employer clients; serving in a leadership role at a trade/professional association, BID, economic development organization, or similar group; or related experience.
