Job Description

The mission of the Recreation Division is to enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active and intellectually stimulating lives through sports, fitness, outdoor adventure, technology, education, and the arts. Recreation programs include specialized exercise classes, youth sports, senior activities, summer camps and free after-school programs. Recreation programming occurs throughout the City in NYC Parks recreation centers, parks and playgrounds.
The new, 65,000 square foot Mary Cali Dalton Recreation Center will be a state-of the art community hub, offering many programming options and amenities to encourage learning, recreation, and fitness. The center will feature a gymnasium, fitness rooms, and multi-purpose rooms that will host a variety of Afterschool, Summer Camp, Robotics and Arts & Cultural programs.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, develop, plan, and implement recreation activities at the Mary Cali Dalton Recreation Center.
- Determine recreational needs of target groups and communities; develop and implement programming to address those needs.
- Develop key partnerships to enhance programming including supplemental workshops.
- Elicit community participation in activities to drive recreation center membership and attendance.
- Preserve the condition of the recreation center and ensure that health and safety standards are met.
- Organize and promote special events.
- Enforce all operating procedures to promote utilization of Recreation programs and events.
- Train staff in planning and conducting their activities at Parks facilities including centers, athletic fields, as well as other programmable spaces.
- Conduct periodic inspections of programs, equipment and facilities.
- Investigate and respond to complaints from the public and personnel.
- Attend community meetings.
- Assist center management in collecting and submitting accurate data, forms and financial information to meet internal deadlines.
- Use applications/software such as Xplor Recreation, AMPS and Excel to effectively track membership, out of service equipment, attendance, etc.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by Center Management and the Borough Recreation Office.

Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and one year of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership; or
3. A high school diploma, or its equivalent, and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. Experience may be substituted for undergraduate education on the basis of one year of satisfactory, full-time experience equates to 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university. However, all candidates must possess at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in “1” above.
