Job Description
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The Early Intervention Program analyzes relevant events and information sources to identify members who may be at-risk for poor performance/adverse consequences. They confer with the member's commanding officer and relevant stakeholders and designs a remedial action plan to provide guidance and support, and enhance performance. The Early Intervention Program coordinates with the Health and Wellness Section to ensure a holistic approach to the member's well-being as well as coordinating with the Early Intervention Committee.
The Early Intervention Unit is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Agency Attorney II to perform the duties that include, but are not limited to:
- Analyzing and assessing candidates in the Early Intervention Program who meet the threshold for inclusion
- Conducting a comprehensive review of related paperwork, including but not limited to police documents, relevant reports and body worn camera and making a recommendation as to appropriate interventions where necessary
- Reviewing cases involving suppression of evidence and refusal to indemnify as per court order, identifying legal issues and providing an analysis for possible inclusion in the Early Intervention Program.
- Ensure compliance with the ordered interventions and provide data for quarterly report.

Qualifications
1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
