Hours: Full-time – 35 Hours

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking a Director to join the Design Unit’s Section 4 – Consultant Design – Group 1.

The successful candidate will supervise, manage, and review the work of a Deputy Director and 2 - 3 teams of approximately 12 - 20 Engineers and Technicians responsible to ensure timely design completions of numerous DOT and DEP projects, assist in the resolution of construction issues requiring design changes with least amount of cost increase and delay to the project. The Director will be responsible for developing standard construction language, and maintaining and updating standard specifications for roadways, sewer, and water mains, and standard drawings; representing the Design Unit at meetings dealing with Utility companies, City, State, and Federal agencies; providing technical support to the staff in the preparation of design drawings, specifications and estimates; ensuring that every project is designed as per current City standards and specifications and that the level of quality review is accurate and in a timely manner.

The final candidate will also represent the Design Unit at coordination meetings; must have the ability to manage and willingness to train staff to carry out all areas of Design and Construction Support functions; and must understand Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) regulations, Federal, and City standards and procedures.

Lastly, the selected candidate will keep track of the priority projects and prioritize them as needed to meet the agency's goals and will help develop and modify the specifications as needed; keep up to date with the latest design standards and requirements and provide guidance to Design staff and Design consultants.

ADMINISTRATIVE ENGINEER - 10015

Qualifications

1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
