Job Description
The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.
In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Trial Preparation Assistant, Level II (TPA II) to assist Appeals Bureau Assistant District Attorneys with post-conviction matters.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting attorneys with all aspects of filing motions and briefs, such as proofreading, cite-checking, and generating Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities.
- Formatting and preparing documents for filing in compliance with court rules and bureau guidelines.
- Drafting procedural motion responses, under attorney supervision.
- Preparing exhibits and appendices for legal documents.
- Maintaining and updating internal digital files.
- Communicating with defense attorneys and courts regarding cases.
- Fulfilling defense requests for exhibits, etc.
- Writing elementary legal briefs, under attorney supervision, time permitting.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required by start date.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with court staff, agency staff, and external agency staff.
- Familiarity with Westlaw or Lexis preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and effectively under deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task in fast-paced and changing environment.
- Attention to detail.

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
