RICHMOND COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
The men and women of the Richmond County District Attorney’s office work each day in partnership with Law Enforcement and the people of Staten Island to pursue justice for victims of crime, to prevent crime in all its forms, and to promote the safety and well-being of all citizens of our Borough.

THE DIVISON
This is a support staff role within the Criminal Court Division. The Criminal Court Division represents the District Attorney for prosecutorial duties bringing criminal cases on behalf of the public to ensure justice is served. The division is made up of two teams: the legal team and legal support team. The selected candidate will join the legal support team and serve as a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) Assistant; responsible for aiding Assistant District Attorney’s during criminal court proceedings to help carry out the agency’s mission.

SCHEDULE: Criminal Court operates 7 days week including nights and holidays. The selected candidate will be required to work either a Tuesday-Saturday or a Sunday-Thursday schedule and a holiday rotation.

THE ROLE
Under the direct supervision of the DAT Supervisor, the candidate will serve as a DAT Assistant. Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

- Review incoming DATs to ensure the paperwork is complete and ready for write up.
- Prepare and review legal documents for DAT (Desk Appearance Tickets) write up.
- Communicate and gather case related paperwork from officers in DAT cases.
- Draw up DAT arrests and live arrests when needed.
- Manage sign-in board for LIVE and DAT arrests.
- Prepare Order of Protections (OOPs) ensuring all information is correct.
- Prepare supporting depositions and communicate with victims.
- Create folders for cases drawn up at night duty.
- Obtain DMV related documents when needed for a case.
- Order drug labs for DAT cases and follow up on the results.
- Forward duplicate copies of a Felony cases to appropriate unit/bureau.
- Bring files to the clerk’s office for docketing.
- Answer telephones.
- Locate and file cases whenever necessary.
- Close out cases in database.
- Other general clerical duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Prior criminal justice experience or coursework preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written and professional interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Fluency in foreign languages, particularly Spanish.

CIVIL SERVICE TITLE: Community Associate
SALARY RANGE: $55,000, Commensurate with experience; full NYC benefits package

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
