Job Description

The Bronx District Attorney seeks an experienced attorney to serve as Chief of the Public Integrity Bureau (PIB). The Public Integrity Bureau, within the Investigations Division, investigates and prosecutes crimes committed by public servants, government employees, and elected officials. The Bureau also investigates the use of excessive force and misconduct committed by uniformed public servants, including non-fatal shootings, by public servants such as members of the New York City Police Department and New York City Department of Correction. The Bureau works closely with the Internal Affairs Bureau and the Force Investigation Division of the New York City Police Department, the New York City Department of Investigations, and other law enforcement partners to investigate these matters.

Job Responsibilities:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Bureau.
- Lead, supervise and direct all investigations and prosecutions conducted by the Bureau.
- Direct and oversee grand jury presentations
- Review and assess the legal sufficiency of all applications for search warrants and pen registers.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with various state, local and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Motivate, organize, and direct Bureau staff to perform their jobs competently and with integrity.
- Conduct regular in-depth case reviews and conferences.
- Understand and respond clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, to complex legal issues.
- Work cooperatively with a large and diverse staff.
- Participate in training for office personnel and outside agencies.
- Communicate across multiple organizational levels, both internally and externally.
- Manage and supervise the Public Integrity Beeper which may include responding to crime scenes.
- Available nights, weekends, and holidays, including week-long on call’ shifts
- Perform other duties as required to support the work of the Public Integrity Bureau and the Office at large.

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctorate degree required and significant criminal law experience.
- 10+ years of experience, and prior supervisory experience required.
- Active and Good Standing in the New York State Bar.
- US Citizenship and New York State residency are required as of the first day of employment.
- Strong knowledge of, and experience with, the New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law including Article 245 of the CPL.
- Significant experience developing and overseeing all aspects of long-term criminal investigations and prosecutions involving public corruption and official misconduct.
- Significant felony trial experience including, but not limited to, trials involving violent felonies such as attempted murder, assault, etc.
- Significant grand jury experience, including presenting witnesses testifying under waivers of immunity.
- Strong legal writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
- Strong business planning and forecasting skills.
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Excellent presentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to solve complex issues arising from investigations and case management from inception to conclusion both professionally and fairly.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of NYS courts and the criminal justice system.
