Job Description

The City of Mission is seeking a collaborative and community-minded professional to join our team as the Program Coordinator – Safety & Prevention Outreach Team. This newly created position will play a key role in advancing a coordinated approach to community safety by bringing together municipal departments, public safety partners, social service agencies, and the business community to address complex social challenges and enhance community well-being.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Wellness, you will act as the connection between enforcement and regulatory partners, including RCMP, Bylaw Enforcement, and Fire Rescue Services, and outreach teams, peer support workers, social service providers, and local businesses. You will coordinate community safety initiatives, support collaborative responses to emerging issues, build strong partnerships, and help improve service delivery throughout the community.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an organized and relationship-focused professional with strong communication, problem-solving, and project coordination skills. You are comfortable working with diverse stakeholders, navigating sensitive situations, and balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants will have a diploma or degree in Public Administration, Criminology, Social Services, Community Development, or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of related experience in community programs, outreach, community safety, bylaw or regulatory coordination, or a similar environment. Training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and harm reduction principles is considered an asset.

The successful candidate must possess Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED certification, a valid BC Driver's Licence, and be able to obtain and maintain a Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Additional Information

The current pay rate for this one-year full-time temporary position is $44.93 per hour plus 4.4% in lieu of benefits increasing to 12.4% upon completion of the probationary period. As this is a newly created position, the job description, classification, and wage rate are under review with the union and may be subject to change.
