Job Description

The City of Mission is seeking an Asset Management Co-op Student enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering Diploma or Bachelor's Degree, or related program. This position is expected to be filled from May to September 2026.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Planning & Assets, the Co-op Student will gain practical experience supporting the development and maintenance of Mission’s asset management systems.

The successful candidate will assist utilities staff with a variety of field and office tasks related to Asset Management including:

  • Assisting with Tangible Capital Assets (TCA) reporting
  • Supporting other departments in delivering specific asset management plans
  • Assisting with file management transitions
  • Updating asset information in GIS databases and records
  • Researching grant opportunities
  • Supporting infrastructure condition assessment programs such as CCTV footage reviews
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports, statistics, assessments, life cycle estimates, budgeting, and documentation
  • Observing and learning about Asset Management best management practices
  • Perform other related duties as needed

This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with municipal Asset Management. The successful co-op hire will work with experienced professionals across Mission’s organization, and participate in technical analytical work that supports the development and delivery of asset and infrastructure planning for years to come.

Qualifications

We are seeking a student currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering diploma or degree program at a recognized post-secondary institution.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Good understanding of asset management principles and systems
  • Strong analytical and data management skills
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform field work if required
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Confidence in Microsoft Excel and Word software products

Additional Information

The hourly rate for this CUPE Student position is $23.41 (2025 rate) per hour plus 12.4% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays, other paid leaves, fringe benefits, and premiums.

This job opportunity is expected to start in May 2026 and continue until September 2026.  The work schedule is 9 hours/day, 4 days/week, between Sunday and Saturday with 3 consecutive days off.
