Job Description
The Engineering & Public Works Department is hiring a full-time Truck Driver 3 / Labourer 2 to join our team of hardworking, outdoor professionals. This hybrid position offers year-round variety and stability, working as a Labourer 2 from April to November and as a Truck Driver 3 from November to April.
From April to November, you’ll perform a wide range of outdoor maintenance and construction tasks, including asphalt, sidewalk, and boulevard repairs; grading and backfilling; form building and concrete finishing; brushing; garbage collection; sediment and pond cleaning; sign maintenance; pressure washing; snow removal; and traffic flagging.
From November to April, you’ll operate large trucks to transport materials such as dirt, sand, gravel, and asphalt; plow and sand roads; and assist with construction and maintenance activities. Duties include conducting vehicle inspections, performing minor maintenance, and helping with loading and unloading.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have experience in public works or construction and knowledge of safe truck operation, accident prevention, and material handling. A solid understanding of occupational health and safety practices, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential. High school diploma or equivalent, Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement, Level 1 First Aid, and Traffic Control certification are required. Additional courses such as Introduction to Public Works would be an asset.
Additional Information
The 2025 hourly rates for this hybrid position are; $35.84 per hour for the Truck Driver 3 role, and $34.31 per hour in Labourer 2, plus a comprehensive benefit package upon successful completion of the probationary period including the Municipal Pension Plan. We also offer a four-day work week with nine-hour shifts (72 hours bi-weekly).
