Job Description

The City of Mission is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator 3 with a specialization in operating brush cutters to join our dynamic Engineering & Public Works team. This position plays a critical role in our landscape maintenance efforts, requiring technical proficiency and a strong commitment to safety.

As an Equipment Operator 3 (Brush Cutter), you will be responsible for operating and maintaining brush cutting equipment safely and efficiently. Your duties will include clearing brush and vegetation from municipal properties, parks, and roadsides. Regular inspections and minor maintenance of equipment are essential to ensure optimal operation. You will work collaboratively with team members to complete large-scale vegetation management projects and follow all safety standards and protocols diligently. The ability to plan and execute tasks with minimal supervision is essential.

Qualifications

Candidates should have extensive knowledge of brush cutter operations and maintenance, a strong mechanical aptitude for minor service jobs, and the ability to multitask while meeting deadlines in a busy work environment. Effective communication skills and attention to detail with strong organizational abilities are crucial for success in this role.

Qualifications include high school graduation or equivalent, significant experience in operating brush cutters and performing minor servicing, a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license, and a valid Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification.

Additional Information

This position works four-day work week (nine-hour shifts) schedule; the incumbent will work Tuesday to Friday from 7:30am to 5pm. Please be aware that this shift may change to Thursday to Sunday depending on operational needs. 

The 2025 hourly rate of pay for this full-time, time-durated CUPE position is $38.42 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits increasing to 12.4% following the probationary period. We anticipate this position to go from May to November 2025.
