Job Description

The City of Mission’s Development Services Department – Planning Division is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi-disciplinary team as a temporary, full-time Planning Technician for approximately one year (June 2024 to end of May 2025). 

You will provide assistance, information and interpretation to the public and developers relating to general inquiries and various municipal bylaws pertaining to development, Zoning Bylaw regulations, the Official Community Plan (OCP) and provincial legislation.

You will review preliminary application proposals and coordinate the preliminary application review (PAR) process including presenting at meetings and following-up with applicants.

You will also conduct field inspections, review, analyze and process basic land use development applications including development permits, development variance permits, temporary use permits, liquor and cannabis license proposals, Agricultural Land Commission applications, rezoning and subdivision applications in accordance with the Zoning Bylaw,  OCP, the Local Government Act, various municipal bylaws, policies and provincial legislation and prepare reports recommending acceptance, modification or rejection of proposals, and recommend appropriate terms and conditions for acceptable proposals to applicants.

Qualifications

You will possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in Planning or a related discipline plus a minimum of two years of relatable experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will be a definite asset. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license is required.

Additional Information

The 2024 hourly rate for this CUPE position is $44.78 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits increasing to 12.4% after completion of the probationary period. We offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks).
