Job Description

The City of Mission’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking energetic and motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal and communications skills for the role of Lifeguard/Instructor 3 (Head Guard) (2 positions). This role is a combination of administrative and hands-on duties.

In this role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative and supervisory duties, such as monitoring the day-to-day operation of the aquatic facility, as well as performing life guarding and instruction duties in various aquatic activities, and, as required, maintenance in the pool area.  In the absence of the Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Instructor 3 (Head Guard) will be the designated leader during the allocated timeframe. This position will lead by example and provide guidance and direction to the Lifeguard/Instructors 1 and 2.

In addition to performing guarding and instructing duties, you will assist with supervision on deck, class instruction, daily maintenance, rentals and activities. You will help train and instruct the Lifeguard/Instructors 1 and 2 and provide support and mentoring to aquatic staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

The successful candidates will have graduated from high school and have a minimum of three years experience in guarding and instructing, and supervisory training and/or experience.

Required licences and certifications include: National Lifeguard Pool certification; Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor-Swim for Life and Canadian Swim Patrol; CPR  Level C certification (including AED); PoolSafeBC; OFA – Level 1; SEE Auditor; Aquatic Supervisor Trainer.  LifeSaving Instructor (LSI) is an asset but not required. Additional Information

The 2023 rate of pay for this CUPE position is $31.03 per hour plus full benefits, including pension, upon completion of probation.  

The hours of work are on a 9-day fortnight, days/times as follows:

Position #1: Sunday to Thursday (alternating Thursday off); Sunday, Wednesday & Thursday: 10:00 am to 6:30 pm; Monday & Tuesday:1:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Position #2: Tuesday to Saturday (alternating Tuesday off); Tuesday: 10:00am to 6:30 pm; Wednesday to Friday: 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm; Saturday: 8:45 am to 5:15 pm
