Job Description

We are looking for students with strong work ethic, initiative and safety mindset to join the City of Merritt's Public Works team in a Summer Student position. Summer Students work full-time during the spring and summer season, from May to September.

What will you do as a Summer Student?

You will work with the Public Works team to keep the City's grounds, sidewalks, streets, roads, and other public areas maintained and ready for enjoyment by our City's residents and visitors. You'll do this by landscaping, mowing, sweeping, shovelling, digging, assisting in maintenance and repairs, and operating tools and equipment, along with other related duties.

What are the working conditions?

As a Summer Student, you will do physically demanding work in a safety-sensitive light industrial work environment outside. You will work outside in all weather conditions through the season.

Qualifications

A student employee shall be a bona fide student presently enrolled full time in a post-secondary program or a grade 12 graduate who has supplied proof of application for such enrollment.

Additional Information

The current rate for this position is $22.05 per hour. This position also receives an amount in lieu of benefits, access to the employee and family assistance plan (EAP), and exclusive perks.
