Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Clerk to join our Financial Services Team on a casual basis.
This position is based out of City Hall and involves front line point of contact between the public and the City to provide customer service and find creative ways to solve challenges. The Casual Accounting Clerk will work with customers to answer inquiries, guide people through processes, fill out forms, take debit and cash payments and provide information. The incumbent will be focused on details with strong arithmetic and typing skills and will take the time to listen to deliver what is most helpful for the customer.
The Casual Accounting Clerk will work to ensure the highest level of quality and accuracy, supporting the monthly revenue and expense reporting and maintain accurate and complete accounting files and records. This is a multi-faceted role, interacting with internal and external stakeholders performing reception duties such as answering telephones, responding to inquiries, and clerical functions including ordering office supplies and collecting and processing mail.
Note: This advertisement is for casual employment. Casual employees are scheduled on an as-needed basis to provide relief for leaves, vacations, and peak periods; there are no guaranteed hours or schedules.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in accounting, business, office administration with a minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience providing customer service, completing point-of-sale transactions, and working in an office environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Thorough understanding and working knowledge of
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Coding and transactional accounting
- Reconciliation of accounts and sub-ledgers and preparing journal entries
- Knowledge of basic financial, tax, and accounting principles.
- Working knowledge of Vadim and experience in a local government environment is preferred.
- Competent in a Microsoft Office 360 environment (Outlook, Word, Excel) and using computerized accounting software, records management systems, databases, and financial software.
- Minimum typing speed of 45 wpm.
- Able to provide professional, patient, attentive, and courteous customer service to internal and external customers by communicating clearly and empathetically, while demonstrating active listening and maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.
- Proficient skills in conflict resolution and de-escalation during challenging situations.
- Able to work independently while effectively collaborating with the team.
- Problem-solving skills with a talent for finding creative and resourceful solutions.
- Strong time management skills with strategies to stay organized, prioritize, and efficiently multi-task.
