Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Driver (All Trucks) 1-Year Term to join the City of Merritt's Public Works Team in a 1-year term position (September 2025). As members of the Public Works team, Drivers (All Trucks) ensure the City of Merritt’s residents have the services which make Merritt a great place to live play and work. Drivers (All Trucks) provide essential services to maintain public areas, programs, and infrastructure including but not limited to roads, utilities, sanitation, solid waste and recycling, airport, parks, and the cemetery. As part of a small team, Drivers also support general Public Works operations by providing coverage in peak periods and when needed.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge – Education, Training & Experience

  • Mechanical reasoning and experience (2 years or more is preferred) operating large commercial vehicles (standard and automatic) such as garbage trucks, dump trucks, snowplows, publicly, in all weather conditions.
  • Experience working in utilities and road maintenance, preferably in a municipal Public Works environment.
  • Safety training in all related areas such as confined space, first aid and traffic control or willingness to obtain.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • A Class 3 Drivers’ Licence with a safe and acceptable driving history.
  • Air brake endorsement.

This position requires 40 working hours per week.

Additional Information
