The City of Americus operates under the City Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority are vested in the governing body which consists of a Mayor and six council members all elected on a nonpartisan basis. Council members serve four-year staggered terms, with three council members elected every two years. The Mayor is elected at large to serve a four-year term. The six council members are elected by district. The governing body is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget and appointing the City Manager, Municipal Court Judge and the City Attorney. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the governing body and for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the government.
Job Description
The City of Americus is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant GIS Director. The beginning salary for this position starts at $58,678.00 annually and could go up to $70,000.00 annually according to your experience and qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES of this position include:
- Designing and executing the Enterprise GIS program,
- Designs and oversees implementation of spatial infrastructure.
- Develops city standards for data maintenance, data quality, and cartography; researches and composes data governance policy, departmental service level agreements, data grading rubric, and technical specifications
Directs the acquisition, development, and maintenance of spatial data.
- Designs and develops interactive maps, web applications, data schemas, and data portals.
- Oversees and administers GIS office budget.
- Conducts training, outreach, technical support, and vendor engagement.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS for this position include a Bachelor's Degree in engineering or the hard sciences such as Civil Engineering or GIS; or a Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration or closely related field; Requires six years’ progressively responsible experience as a GIS analyst, GIS technician or closely related experience; Required qualifications may be any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
