The City of Americus operates under the City Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority are vested in the governing body which consists of a Mayor and six council members all elected on a nonpartisan basis. Council members serve four-year staggered terms, with three council members elected every two years. The Mayor is elected at large to serve a four-year term. The six council members are elected by district. The governing body is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget and appointing the City Manager, Municipal Court Judge and the City Attorney. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the governing body and for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the government.

Job Description

The City of Americus is seeking two (2) qualified candidates to fill the position of Code Enforcement Officer. The beginning salary is $ 31,118.00 annually ($14.96 hourly).

RESPONSIBILITIES of this position include enforcing the City’s Code of Ordinances and state or federal regulations related to property maintenance, dilapidated structures, building codes, solid waste, recycling, and environmental codes. This position also serves as the liaison between the Environmental Protection Division and the city for all environmental issues; participates in community outreach and public education efforts for environmental issues, including coordinating Keep Americus Beautiful and Keep Georgia Beautiful; Responds to violations of City Sanitation Ordinances and Water Restriction violations and issues warnings, citations and pursues other legal action when deemed necessary and maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, laws, regulations, and of applicable changes in the laws.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS for this position include a High School diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college municipal code, law enforcement or closely related field; Requires one year of experience in municipal ordinance, law enforcement or closely related experience; Required qualifications may be any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
