Through our national network of branches and specialist teams, we help people live independently in their own homes, supporting a range of needs from elderly care to complex health conditions. At CCH Group, we are committed to putting care first for both our clients and our teams.

Job Description

The Insight Analyst combines business analysis of data with the design and delivery of trusted reports and dashboards. The role works with stakeholders to define the decisions they need to make, agree measures and business rules, and turn reliable data into clear reporting and actionable insight.

The role defines the data needed to answer business questions, designs reporting-facing Gold schemas within the organisation’s Microsoft Fabric medallion architecture and gives testable requirements to Data Engineering. Data Engineers build and operate repeatable pipelines and governed datasets. The analyst validates those datasets and turns them into reports and insight, following standards set by the Data Manager and Governance Lead.

This role reports to the Group Data and Governance Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Understand business needs and measures

  • Lead stakeholder workshops and discovery sessions to understand how different parts of the organisation operate and elicit the decisions, questions and measures that reporting must support.
  • Agree consistent definitions, filters and business rules for key measures with data owners so teams work from the same information.
  • Use prototypes, demonstrations and feedback to refine reporting requirements and acceptance criteria.

Create management information and reporting

  • Use governed datasets to build Power BI semantic models, dashboards and management reports, and equivalent outputs in other BI platforms.
  • Bring together governed information from different systems and databases to give users a clearer view of business performance.
  • Identify repetitive spreadsheets and manual reports that can be replaced with reliable, automated reporting.
  • Document reporting logic, data assumptions, refresh behaviour, ownership and limitations; support adoption and appropriate self-service use.

Design reporting data and specify engineering work

  • Design reporting-facing Gold schemas and semantic structures in Fabric, defining the grain, dimensions, measures, relationships and business rules required for reporting.
  • Specify source data, mappings, transformations, quality checks, refresh needs and acceptance criteria for Data Engineering to build repeatable datasets and pipelines; validate delivery against the specification.
  • Work with the technical data team to improve the datasets, structures and processes that underpin business reporting.

Analyse and explain

  • Use SQL to investigate datasets, identify trends and exceptions, answer questions and find issues that need further investigation.
  • Carry out one-off analysis for projects, investigations and important decisions; test assumptions and provide evidence for recommendations.
  • Explain what the numbers show to stakeholders, including uncertainty, limitations and assumptions behind the analysis.
  • Suggest ways the organisation can make better use of its data over time.

Support users and assure quality

  • Respond to business queries about data and reporting, including definitions, discrepancies, report behaviour and access; resolve within the role’s remit or route to the appropriate owner.
  • Reconcile outputs to agreed sources, investigate data quality issues and feed recurring defects or improvements into reporting and engineering backlogs.
  • Apply agreed access, privacy, documentation and reporting standards, and raise risks to the Data Manager and Governance Lead.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced Power BI skills in semantic modelling, DAX, report design and performance, with SQL proficiency and familiarity with other BI platforms.
  • Ability to define measures and business rules and test results against source data.
  • Strong stakeholder skills and confidence leading requirements sessions, challenging assumptions and explaining findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and medallion warehouse and lakehouse architecture, including Bronze, Silver and Gold layers.
  • Ability to design Gold layer schemas and write clear, testable requirements for Data Engineering.

Experience

  • Extensive hands-on Power BI experience, including dashboards, reports and semantic models.
  • Experience leading stakeholder sessions to elicit requirements, agree measures and present insight.
  • Experience working with data engineers or platform teams to resolve source and quality issues.

Qualifications

Relevant data, analytics or business information qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
