Job Description
What you'll do
In this role, you will provide day-to-day support to a young person with complex health needs, including epilepsy, developmental delay and neurological conditions.
You will help with personal care such as bathing, dressing and managing continence. You will also support them with a pureed diet and follow strict hygiene and infection control procedures because they are more vulnerable to illness.
You will support them at school, helping them take part in activities, communicate and follow their daily routine. You will need to monitor them for seizures, be aware of possible triggers such as loud noises or changes in temperature, and respond appropriately if a seizure happens. This may include giving prescribed rescue medication and following emergency procedures.
You will work closely with their family to make sure they receive safe and consistent care. As they are non-verbal but understand well, you will support their communication and encourage them to take part in activities they enjoy.
Most importantly, you will provide a calm, safe and supportive environment. You will encourage their independence, respect their choices and preferences, and make sure their needs are always listened to and supported.
