Our 4,100- acre system includes 25 recreation centers, 9 swimming pools, 5 golf courses and numerous athletic facilities, including sports courts, ball diamonds, soccer fields and gymnasiums. Job Description

The Planning & Capital Division is currently delivering a portfolio of over 80 Capital Improvement Projects with a value of approximately $800M.  These 80 projects move through planning, design and construction phases, and during each of these phases the projects require a high level of community engagement, communication with the public, internal communication within the Department and external communication with other City departments.  The success of these projects is often dependent on the quality of stakeholder engagement and outreach conducted by the division to set clear project goals and expectations with the public.  We're looking for a Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator to join our team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Create and implement effective outreach engagement strategies with Project Managers.

  • Provide technical assistance to division staff on developing effective outreach engagement strategies and implementing those strategies
  •  Assist Project Managers with the logistics of public outreach on a project-by-project basis;
  • Maintain the technological and data infrastructure necessary to support the Division’s daily communications;
  • Represent the Division in a variety of public forums and settings;
  • Supervise interns to implement outreach strategies;
  • Collaborate with other Department Public Information staff to stay connected with City policies and communication innovations;
  • Collect, manage, and provide data for reporting, such as monthly and quarterly reports, to Department staff and City entities.
  • Design and implement a park intercept survey volunteer program in collaboration with PMs, Planners, other Outreach Coordinator, and Director of Planning and Capital Management.
  • Solicit stakeholder feedback.  In conjunction with Project Managers facilitate stakeholder engagement meetings; develop materials in conjunction with the Project Manger to solicit constituent feedback, explore tradeoffs, and share the department's mission and objectives.
  • Manage outreach and engagement related consultant contracts, including but not limited to graphics design, printing, meeting facilitation, etc.
  • Build and maintain communication infrastructure by utilizing existing technology.
  • Improve systems to communicate and coordinate with RPD staff, including a short, digestible capital project update for internal stakeholders.
  • Provide updates on capital projects to Policy and Public Affairs staff.
  • Identify community, political and communications challenges on projects and coordinate with Policy and Public Affairs to develop a coordinated approach.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

These minimum qualifications are to be used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which may be required for employment in the class. Although these minimum qualifications are typical of the class, additional minimum qualifications and special conditions may apply to a particular position and will be stated on the job announcement.

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND
  2. One year (2000 hours) of experience supervising, coordinating or directing volunteer services and/or community outreach services in an organization which provides services to the public.

Substitution: Additional experience supervising, coordinating or directing volunteer and/or community relations services, as described above, may be substituted for up to two years of the required baccalaureate degree on a year-for-year basis. 

Special Condition:  CA. Driver's License

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of capital project planning and delivery.
  2. Six (6) months of experience in a role dedicated to volunteer or outreach efforts working with community leaders and residents of underserved communities within a public parkland environment.

Verification of work experience typically must be on the employer’s letterhead, and must include the applicant’s name, job title, description of job duties, dates of service, and signature of the employer. San Francisco City and County employees do not need to submit verification of their City employment, but must submit verification of outside experience. San Francisco City and County employees will not receive credit for experience obtained outside of their classification unless recorded in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Service Rule 110.9.1.

Additional Information

Appointment Type:  This is a Permanent Exempt appointment. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process, is considered “at will” and serves at the discretion of the Appointing Officer with appointment duration of up to three (3) years. 

Compensation:  $83,382 - $109,044 annually
