Job Description

Under general direction, the 5241 Electrical Engineer works in the Distribution Engineering group and is focused in providing engineering support to other groups within Power Enterprise.

The Engineer will be called upon to perform engineering tasks related to electric distribution and service design, streetlight design, and capital project planning.

The Engineer is expected to provide interconnection support services for SFPUC streetlight and electric service customers.

Essential Functions:

·         Prepare planning and engineering design documents, cost estimates, and analyses for City-owned electric distribution system construction and maintenance, applying standards and developing cost assessments;

·         Assure design compliance with applicable engineering standards and practices, good utility practices, and maintenance requirements

·         Review and analyze PG&E service contracts for new and existing City facilities in accordance with the applicable codes, Franchise Agreements, and Wholesale Distribution Tariff;

·         File and track wholesale distribution tariff applications for new electric services and site modifications;

·         Conduct site assessments;

·         Provide technical assistance, operational guidance, and engineering support for the maintenance of existing City-owned and operated transmission and distribution facilities;

·         Provide good customer service by meeting with customers - reviewing engineering plans and details, discussing project priorities and construction schedules;

·         Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of verifiable professional Electrical Engineering experience, which includes two (2) years’ experience equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco's class 5207 Associate Engineer as a licensed Professional Engineer in the specialty you are applying for; AND
  • Three (3) years of recent and verifiable experience in utility power systems, control systems and associated high voltage components; AND
  • Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Electrical Engineering.
