Building Repair Division
Provides quality professional construction, repair and remodeling for City-owned facilities.  It also provides emergency-repair services around the clock, ensuring that Police, Fire and other Public Safety operations are fully functional at all times.

Public Works currently has a vacancy for Locksmith Supervisor I (7236) within the Bureau of Building and Street Repair.

Job Description

Under direction, as Locksmith Supervisor I, you will supervise, plan, inspect and coordinate the work of staff Locksmiths engaged in the repair, adjustment, and maintenance of all types of locks and locking devices.

Important and Essential Duties:
Your duties as Locksmith Supervisor I may include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Assign and supervise the work of Locksmiths, inspect work during progress and upon completion.
  • Assist in the development and advancement of staff through training and effective use of employee development programs.
  • Requisition, receive, inspect, and store equipment and supplies.
  • Confer with building maintenance personnel regarding work to be accomplished.
  • Supervise and participate in the installing and repairing of locks, changing lock combinations, opening or removing locks which cannot be opened by ordinary means; devise and adjust master key systems and install and maintain all types of locking devices.
  • May incidentally supervise, inspect, and repair or adjust other building hardware such as door checks, latches, panic doors and door closers.
  • Estimate materials and labor costs.
  • Maintain simple work records and reports.
  • Prepare, gather, and maintain records and reports utilizing a computer for data input on work accomplished and materials expended and detailed key codes and records.
  • Investigate accidents and prepare written reports.
  • Drive a motor vehicle to transport equipment and tools to various job sites in the performance of job duties.
  • Interpret, explain, and carry out existing methods and procedures pertaining to lock repair and maintenance activities.
  • Connect with building maintenance personnel, other departments and outside organizations relating to lock repair and maintenance operations.
  • Conduct quarterly performance check-ins, prepare plans and appraisals for staff.
  • May be required to work in jails or health care facilities.

Working Conditions:
Nature of work may require working in various worksite locations including correctional or health care facilities, and may require working various shifts and/or standby work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:
Five (5) years' experience as a Locksmith, including at least one (1) year of experience at the journey level.

License:
Possession of a current valid Driver's License. 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

Valid Driver’s License:  Applicants must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit them from legally performing the essential functions and duties of the role. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
