APPOINTMENT TYPE: One (1) Temporary Provisional (TPV), Full time, full year position. This is a Temporary Provisional (TPV) position excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process. It is considered "at will" and shall serve at the discretion of the Department Head. This position will be subject to the Permanent Civil Service examination process at a later date. Successful participation in the Permanent Civil Service examination and selection through an open competitive process is needed in order to be considered for the permanent appointment.

Salary Range (Step 5) –  $62.0118 hourly

$128,985 annually

Job Description

Under general supervision performs skilled electrical work in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair and alteration of electrical systems up to and including 12,000 volts, machinery and equipment; may exercise work direction over craftsmen involved in such work; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Installs, maintains, tests and repairs electrical distribution systems and devices such as lighting, power circuits, fixtures, transformers, programmable logical controls (PLC), motors, motor controls, process controls, auxiliary lighting systems, life safety systems, electronic controls, relays, regulators, branch circuit breakers, main distribution circuit breakers, irrigation control systems, and other related electrical equipment which may be in confined spaces.

2. Inspects and repairs generating equipment and its auxiliary accessories.

3. Cuts, bends and installs rigid conduit, electrical metallic tubing (EMT) and pulls current carrying conductors.

4. Erects and uses ladders, scaffolds, staging, aerial lift trucks and light towers.

5. Communicates via two-way radios and telephones.

6. Prepares and submits reports for time, and material used reports on work accomplished.

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Completion of a recognized Apprenticeship program (Inside Wireman Apprenticeship).

Experience:

One (1) year of journey level electrician experience.

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid California (Class C) driver license.

Substitution:

Additional experience as a journey level electrician may be substituted for the required electrician apprenticeship on a year-for-year basis.

Six years of inside wireman experience equivalent to journey-level as defined by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers may be substituted for the required experience.

Notes on Qualifying Experience and Education:

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Additional Information Regarding Employment with the City and County of San Francisco:

Benefits:

1.  Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full-year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school- term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.

2.  New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).
