San Francisco Public Works (SF Public Works) is currently recruiting position for the role of Plumber Supervisor 1 (7213) within our Building Repair Unit.

Building Repair
We provide quality professional construction, repair, and remodeling for City-owned facilities. Our teams also provide emergency-repair services around the clock, ensuring that police, fire, and other public safety operations are always fully functional.

Appointment Type: Temporary Provisional (TPV). This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service examination for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for permanent appointment. Provisional appointments may not exceed three (3) years.

Job Description

Under general guidance and direction, as a Plumber Supervisor 1, you will plan, assign, and supervise the work of journey-level plumbers engaging in the maintenance and repair work of water, sewer, and other plumbing systems. You will be responsible for explaining and enforcing existing plumbing methods and procedures; making frequent public contact with departmental personnel; preparing operating reports and records on various phases of plumbing maintenance.

The nature of work often involves some physical effort requiring walking and standing, frequent exposure to hazardous environments, and disagreeable elements where injuries may be encountered.

Important and Essential Duties:
The duties you'll perform will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning, assigning, and supervising the work of plumbers on maintenance, repair, remodel jobs, and new construction sites at various locations; coordinates work with other trades involved in the work.
  • Supervising, monitoring, and evaluating personnel, including the counseling of staff and initiating disciplinary procedures if required.
  • You will create estimates regarding the amount of labor and materials needed for various jobs under your supervision.
  • Identify potential issues, solve problems, and take appropriate action in relation to plumbing jobs in a timely manner.
  • Inspecting and evaluating if work is completed correctly, on schedule, and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • You will purchase the required materials for inventory and use during plumbing work.
  • Planning and coordinating safety meetings; scheduling training for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); enforcing work procedures, and performing safety inspections.
  • Using applicable computer systems and equipment necessary to complete the work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Completion of high school, AND completion of a recognized Apprenticeship in the craft.

Experience:
Five (5) years of journey-level plumbing experience in building trades.

License and Certification:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Substitution:
Additional qualifying journey-level plumbing experience may be substituted for the required plumbing apprenticeship on a year-for-year basis.

Desirable Qualifications: The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

  • Experience using a computer-based maintenance management system to monitor work requests and enter dates related to completed repairs.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
