Job Description

Project Name: Rehabilitation of Cottages and Bunkhouse           

Position Description:

Under general supervision, performs skilled carpentry work in connection with the construction, maintenance and repair of city structures, installations and facilities; and performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Explaining and carrying out existing methods and procedures relative to maintenance and repair activities including a wide variety of building alterations, maintenance, and heavy construction (false work, cribbing and shoring) erecting stairs, partitions, barricades, sheds, concrete forms, bleachers, scaffolding, fences, and float decks.
  • Repairing and constructing desks, tables, shelves, chairs, sashes, doors, door assemblies, roofs, hand rails and cabinetry, plastic laminate and solid surface materials; constructing wood and metal building framing such as floors, walls and ceilings.
  • Planning work programs and sequences and preparing material such as lumber, fencing and molding.
  • Making occasional contacts with other departmental personnel and outside organizations in connection with carpentry activities.
  • Reading blueprints and work orders and following other written and verbal instructions.
  • Performing maintenance on tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • May lay and renew floors, baseboards, and molding.
  • May perform installation of locks, door checks, springs transom and other security related hardware.
  • Must be able to recognize suspected safety hazards and toxic materials/conditions and report them to supervisor.

Reporting Location:

Moccasin is located 140 miles east of the San Francisco Bay Area and requires a 5-hour round trip commute by car in fair weather.

Qualifications

If you are interested in a job like this, we are looking for people that have the following:

Education:

  • Completion of a four-year recognized carpenter apprenticeship program; AND

Experience:

  • Three years of experience as a journey-level carpenter (experience, as a carpenter's helper is NOT qualifying).

License and Certification:

  • Possession of a valid California driver license.

Substitution: Additional qualifying journey-level carpenter experience may be substituted for the required carpentry apprenticeship program on a year-for-year basis.
