The San Francisco Department of Public Health's Clinical Nutrition Services at Zuckerberg General Hospital and Trauma Center is accepting applications for Class 2626 Chief Dietitian.

Job Description

Under direction of the Clinical Nutrition Manager, the 2626 Chief Dietitian manages hospital clinical nutrition programs, which meet regulatory agency requirements.  Essential duties include: 

  1. Supervises and assigns duties and schedules to Food and Nutrition Services Personnel. Oversees HR operations functions to including hiring, competency verification, corrective measures and  administers performance appraisals Confer with physicians, nursing staff and other health care providers regarding the nutritional care of patients including recommendations for enteral and parenteral nutrition, therapeutic and texture modified diets
  2. Develop educational materials and teaching programs for patients;
  3. Provide training and orientation to food service staff, clinical staff, dietetic interns, and representatives of other community programs;
  4. Develop and prepare related reports on clinical activities and statistics for continued quality improvement;
  5. Develop and implement Nutrition Services policies and procedures, clinical nutrition guidelines, and programs relating to patient food, safety, sanitation, infection control and preventive maintenance, and monitor the programs for compliance;
  6. Represent the Nutrition Services Department at meetings, committees and conferences;
  7. Formulate menus and evaluate the quality of food; participate in patient satisfaction and service excellence improvement work
  8. Oversee the utilization and optimization of components of a computerized diet office system;
  9. Direct dietetic technician internship programs.
  10. Oversee the review and approval of the ZSFG diet manual

The Chief Dietitian performs other related duties as required. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification (Required):

  • Experience: Requires three (3) years of dietetic experience in a large hospital or similar institution, within the last five (5) years; AND
  • License and Certification: Requires possession of a current valid registration as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics).

Note: One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight: Qualifying): Applicants will be required to complete a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire by email after your submit your application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications for this position. Applicants must also complete the official application. It is essential that applicants provide complete information identifying their education, experience, and training. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Supplemental Questionnaire Examination: (Weight = 100%): Qualified candidates will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) exam that must be completed by the set date. Candidates will be evaluated on their relative knowledge, skill and ability levels in job-related areas. A passing score must be achieved on the SQ in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidate responses on the Supplemental Questionnaire cannot be changed once submitted. Candidates will be placed in rank order according to their final score on the SQ. 

Eligible List: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created, and used for certification purposes only. The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of six (6) months, and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Program Director. The list will be used to fill current and future vacancies within the next six (6) months.

Certification: The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be Rule of Three. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions. The department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures to make final hiring decisions.
