The current position is with Risk Management but the list resulting from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future 2322 Nurse Manager - Quality Management positions for the next six months.

Shift: Varied. Days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holiday shifts may be required, depending on the position.

    Job Description

    The 2322 Nurse Manager (Quality Management) supervises, plans, assigns, directs, and monitors the clinical and administrative activities of Registered Nurses and ancillary staff in an assigned area; oversees and evaluates patient care through observations and chart review; articulates, teaches, interprets and enforces general and community health policies, protocols, procedures, and services; assists in developing and managing the budget; coordinates activities with other departments, programs, community agencies, schools, and civic groups; assesses the need for staff development and plans ongoing education programs; may be assigned management responsibilities in programs requiring highly specialized knowledge in areas such as Quality Improvement, Utilization Management, Nursing Systems/Operations Management, Infection Control, Epidemiology, Sterile Processing, or manages the nursing care component of a Workers Compensation Division.

    Under the general supervision of the Nursing Administrative Leadership, the 2322 Nurse Manager (Quality Management) works in one of three functional areas to include: 

    • Regulatory Affairs
    • Risk Management
    • Patient Safety

    Essential duties include but are not limited to all or some of the following:

    • Provides the necessary vision and leadership to effectively motivate and direct the Risk Management Department in developing and achieving goals and objectives that are congruous with the values, mission and strategic plan of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, The San Francisco Health Network, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
    • Using Joint Commission Leadership Standards and CMS Conditions of Participation, provides the framework for planning, directing, coordinating, providing, and improving care, treatment, and services to respond to community and patient needs and improve health care outcomes.
    • Responsible for the oversight of the ZSFG and SFHN Primary Care risk management program to identify, analyze and assess clinical risk across the continuum of care.
    • Works collaboratively with quality management staff to enhance the risk management program, which is directly correlated to performance improvement.
    • Responsible for the oversight of the sentinel event program to manage the investigation and follow-up of clinical adverse events.
    • Develops and collaborates in the development of SFHN-wide policies and procedures pertaining to the management of risk.
    • Plans and conducts in-service training pertaining to risk management principles, health care law as well as other risk management related subjects.
    • Works directly with the City Attorney’s Office and with private law firms to facilitate the management of potential and actual claims and litigation involving SFGH and SFHN Primary Care departments.

    Qualifications

    1. LICENSE: Possession of a valid, including temporary or interim, California Registered Nurse License issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN); AND
    2. EDUCATION: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and/or university in Nursing, Nursing Administration or a closely related field; AND
    3. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours) of verifiable work experience in Nursing Quality Management, or Nursing Quality Improvement in an acute care hospital, clinic, home health agency or other health care setting.

    SUBSTITUTION:
    Two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours) of additional work experience in Nursing Quality Management, or Nursing Quality Improvement in an acute care hospital, clinic, home health agency or other health care setting may be substituted for the educational requirement. One (1) year (2,000 hours) of work experience is equivalent to 30 Semester Credits or 45 Quarter Credits.

    NOTE: One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Some positions in the Department of Public Health will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to gloves, gowns, eye and face protection, and face-fitting respirators. The requirement for the use of PPE may come on short or no notice. Facial hair or any condition that interferes with a face-fitting respirator’s seal (i.e. comes between the sealing surfaces of the respirator and the wearer’s bare skin) is not permitted when face-fitting respirators are worn, including during initial or periodic respirator fit-testing. Employees who choose not to shave and do not have either American Disabilities Act (ADA) or Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Accommodations do not have the right to alternate work assignments or the option of using a loose-fitting Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) in place of a Face Fitting Respirator.
