Job Description

Under general supervision of the Director of the Medical Staff Services Department (MSSD) Office of Compliance & Privacy Affairs (OCPA), Behavioral Health Services Compliance Office (CHSCO) Compliance Officer, the Medical Staff Services Department Specialist performs the following essential job functions:

  • Performs technical aspects of the Medical Staff credentialing and privileging process, including accurately inputting data into a complex database;
  • Processes applications by conducting primary source verification of education/training, experience, and licensure;
  • Processes Medical/Affiliated Staff appointments;
  • Complies with accreditation and regulatory standards;
  • Provides clear and concise written and verbal communication with Chiefs of Service, members of the Medical Staff and support staff;
  • Maintains a complex computerized database and produces reports as needed; and
  • Provides technical support for Medical Staff committee functions.

The Medical Staff Services Department Specialist performs other related duties as assigned/required

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience: One (1) year of verifiable experience in a Medical Staff Services Department or similar department

Note: Medical Staff Services Department or similar department must be responsible for medical staff credentialing, payer credentialing, health plan enrollment, medical staff governance, or other related functions.

AND

2. License and Certification: Possession of a current certificate or eligibility to be a candidate for the Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist Certificate (CPCS) or Certified Medical Staff Coordinator Certificate (CPMSM) examinations sponsored by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (please attach to your application)

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) (Weight: Qualifying): Applicants will be required to complete a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) at any point in the recruitment process. The MQSQ will be emailed to the email address listed on the applicant’s online job application. Applicants must complete and submit the MQSQ as directed in the time frame indicated to continue in the recruitment process. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications for this position. All statements made on MQSQ are subject to verification and must be consistent with the online application.

Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight: 100%): Qualified candidates will be emailed a supplemental questionnaire exam that must be completed by the set date. Candidates will be evaluated on their relative knowledge, skill, and ability levels in job-related areas which may include, but not be limited to: Knowledge of Medical Staff credentialing and concepts; Knowledge of requirements of state and federal laws and statutes; Knowledge of procedures for recording and transcribing Medical Staff committee minutes; Organizational skills; Oral communication ability; Personal computer skills; and/or Interpersonal relation skills. A passing score must be achieved on the Supplemental Questionnaire in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidate responses on the Supplemental Questionnaire cannot be changed once submitted. Candidates will be placed in rank order according to their final score on the Supplemental Questionnaire.

Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of Six (6) months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.

Certification: The certification rule used for the eligible list resulting from this selection procedure will be Rule of Ten (10) Scores. Additional position-specific selection mechanisms may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Some positions in the Department of Public Health will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to gloves, gowns, eye and face protection, and face-fitting respirators. The requirement for the use of PPE may come on short or no notice. Facial hair or any condition that interferes with a face-fitting respirator’s seal (i.e., weakens the seal between the respirator and the wearer’s bare skin) is not permitted when face-fitting respirators are worn, including during initial or periodic respirator fit-testing. Employees who choose not to shave and do not have either American Disabilities Act (ADA) or Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Accommodations do not have the right to alternate work assignments or the option of using a loose-fitting Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) in place of a Face Fitting Respirator.
