About the Construction and Public Contracting Team

The Public Contracting Team is a collaborative and dynamic group of nine attorneys, two paralegals, and two legal secretaries.  The team provides legal advice to City departments on contracting for public works and improvements, goods and services, grantmaking and IT procurements.  Members of the team also represent the City in litigation involving these matters.  The team supports various City departments, including the City Purchaser and Office of Contract Administration, Office of the Controller, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, SF Public Works and SF Recreation and Parks. 

Job Description

Deputy City Attorney Position and Responsibilities

The Office is recruiting for an attorney to advise on matters relating to the procurement of goods and services, including information technology transactions.  This work will cover the spectrum of the procurement process such as bid/proposal preparation, contract drafting and negotiations, bid protests, and contract claim resolution.  The attorney must incorporate City contracting laws with general legal advice regarding City purchasing agreements.  Other tasks may include legislative drafting, review and approval of City grants, and advising clients on compliance with the City’s Sunshine Ordinance and California Public Records Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

·         Licensed to practice law in California.

·         Experience providing advice and transactional legal services, including complex technology transactions.

·         Excellent research, negotiation, and analytical abilities, along with superior writing and communication skills.

·         Ability to assume responsibility quickly and work independently and efficiently.

·         Ability to manage and appropriately balance work assignments, and adjust to occasional workload increases.

·         Ability to exercise good judgment, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

·         Two or more years of relevant work experience.

Salary and Benefits
