Job Description

Under general supervision, the Engineering Associate II performs difficult technical engineering work in the preparation of civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering drawings.  Produce graphical materials using computer-aided software products such as AutoCAD, Map 3D, Civil 3D and/or Revit.

Essential Functions:

1. Plans, assigns, monitors, and evaluates the work of subordinates. Peer review both coworker’s and subordinate’s work product.

2. Develops and provides updates to the GIS team and SharePoint systems, including updates to KML files. Creates and maintains a library of drawings. Maintains a comprehensive leak database and provides related drawings to the GIS team. 

3. Provides drafting support to Engineering staff and collaborates with other WSTD sections.

4. Manages Hummingbird Document Management system and SharePoint by providing project drawings, converting existing drawings to PDF files, uploading completed drawings to Hummingbird/SharePoint, and assisting engineering staff in the research of drawings.

5. Updates pipeline system material inventory report.

6. Coordinates and schedules software trainings ensuring that engineering and surveying staff are up to date with Autodesk Civil 3D, Autodesk MEP, AutoCAD, and Autodesk University.  

7. Maintains and submits large volumes of reproduction service requests and provides office supply needs to the Engineering section.

8. Collaborates with IT and Purchasing units in the maintenance of the Xerox copier, scanner, and plotter. Maintains contracts and repair services.

9. Creates, submits and facilitates purchasing requisitions through Maximo for equipment, tools and supplies needed for engineering staff.

Work Schedule:  8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Qualifications

If you are interested in a job like this, we are looking for people that have the following:

Experience:

1. Six years of verifiable technical experience in the preparation of designs and drafting of plans and specifications for civil, mechanical, electrical, transportation, and/or structural engineering projects, of which at least two years must have been in a position(s) with duties equivalent to one of the following classifications: Class 5346 Mechanical Engineering Associate I; 5354 Electrical Engineering Associate I, or 5364 Civil Engineering Associate I.

2. Some positions in this job code require proficiency in computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD).

License/Certificate:

  • Possession of a valid California Driver License.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience using Google Earth software.
  • 5 years of experience using Autodesk Civil 3D and Revit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
