Job Description

In preparation for the November 8, 2022, Consolidated General Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions that will serve as official representatives of the Department directly assisting members of the public at the City Hall Voting Center.

Position Schedule and Hours:

The start date for this position will be approximately November 1, 2022, and may run until several weeks after Election Day, November 8, 2022. Both start and end date will be determined by the operational needs of the Department.

 Work hours are generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, work hours will vary widely in accordance with the demands of the election cycle and will range between 40 and 70 hours per week. The person in this position must be available to work overtime both during the week and on weekends as necessary. Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.

This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Position Salary: $28.225/hour

Position Description:

The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and a high level of integrity. This position requires someone with the ability to learn new subject matter in a short period of time, the capacity to work on several tasks simultaneously, the vigilance necessary to protect the accuracy of voter records, and strong work ethic conducive to maintaining strict standards of customer service during high-volume, fast-paced interactions with diverse members of the City’s electorate.

This position will assist members of the public who come to City Hall Voting Center to register to vote, update registration information, mark and cast ballots, obtain replacement ballots, or drop off their voted ballots. When performing these duties, a person in this position will use the Department’s voter registration database and/or other applications and resources.

Working under the supervision of the Voting Center Manager, a person in this position will perform a number of tasks, including:  

  1. Accurately inputting voter information into election applications (typing at least 30 wpm)
  2. Issuing ballots
  3. Providing assistance with completion of election forms
  4. Facilitating voter traffic and providing information to voters
  5. Conducting careful signature review on vote-by-mail ballot envelopes
  6. Opening, sorting, and scanning election forms and elections mail
  7. Providing general clerical support and assisting with other functions, as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: 

One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.

SUBSTITUTION:

Any one of the following may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience:

1.       Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR

2.       15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR

3.       Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
