Job Description

City College of San Francisco is seeking applicants for two (2) "As-Needed" trainer positions. As-needed appointments are temporary exempt appointments to cover peak workloads, emergency workloads, necessary relief, or other situations involving fluctuating staff. Positions are to cover for an employee on leave (July 1, 2022 - December 31, 2022).

Hours are subject to change after appointment depending on District needs. As-Needed employees are expected to make themselves available for on-call, early morning opening shifts, weekends, and closing evening shifts. Employment is limited to 900 hours in any fiscal year and As-Needed appointees earn limited benefits.

Salary Range: $35.1630 - $42.5363/hourly

Position Description:

Under the direction in the Physical Education Department of the San Francisco Community College District, the Athletic Trainer 2502 is responsible for designing and implementing athletic program activities based on an analysis of appropriate Athletic Programs at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) and applicable rules and regulations related to college athletics; providing supervision of student athletes during all aspects of programs; using sound instructional techniques in overseeing program activities; serving as a positive role model to student athletes; and serving in a liaison capacity for the college programs with other schools in the area and outside the area, with the community, and with various organizations.

Essential Duties:
1. Provides athletic training coverage to all home/hosted contests as described in the CCCAA bylaws. Designs and administers concussion management plan that reflects current standards and practice regarding concussion protocol:-

2. Exchanges information with students, parents, and staff regarding various exercises, preventative care, rehabilitation programs, first-aid and follow-up equipment and supplies, and other information related to student athlete health and safety.

3. Serves as technical advisor to staff and athletes on injury prevention. rehabilitation and safety techniques.

4. Confers with medical providers regarding injury follow-up and rehabilitation recommendations.

5. Attends workshops, conferences, and other activities to maintain continuing education.

6. Researches and designs .injury. prevention programs and training schedules for student athletes.

7. Maintains and operates the athletic training facility.

8. Applies padding, tape, braces, and other supplies to athletes as required.

9. Monitors documents and confers with staff and others regarding the rehabilitation progress made by students following injuries.

10. Attends on and off-site athletic events with student athletes and staff as directed.

11. Contacts medical providers and medical practitioners as requires facilitating the treatment and care of student athletes for their speedy and safe return to competition.

12. Researches and designs rehabilitation programs as part of continued student participation in sports activities.

13. Makes recommendations for and monitors progress of various forms of therapy, and use of applicable equipment and supplies.

14. Makes recommendations and assists as directed in the selection of a designated team physician.

15. Coordinates and schedules physical examinations and medical referrals for student athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete. Assist the team physician in conducting physical examinations of athletes prior to participation in intercollegiate sports and obtains athlete medical history.
16. Completes and routes student insurance, injury, and other forms in conjunction with health center and management staff.
17. Uses a variety of computer software to set up and prepare documentation, and to prepare specialty and regular reports, routine correspondence, memorandum, and other written materials.

18. Maintains all student-athlete health records as well as records for all individual injuries and treatment.

19. Performs inventory of athletic training equipment and supplies; makes recommendations for the modification or purchase of new equipment and supplies.

20. Functions as a liaison and fosters an environment of communication and of collaboration between physicians, coaches, parents, student-athletes, and administration.

17. Drives a motor vehicle to on-and off-site locations as required.

18. Duties may include traveling and overnight trips of scheduled contests.

19. Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and evaluates the work of student trainers; trains and updates student trainers on the proper use of equipment and maintenance of the training room; ensures adequate staffing for the operation of the training room and implementation of the health and safety services program.

20. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
1. National Athletic Trainers' Association BOC Certification; AND
2. Current certification in Basic Life Support and Professional CPR with AED; AND
3. Completion of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university; AND
4. Two years experience working in an athletic injury and care situation; AND
5. Copy of a current valid Driver's License within the United States.

Note:- Work experience with the District as a College Work Study student or Lab Aide (3591) Classification will not be considered or applied as qualifying experience.

Desirable Qualifications
1 . Ability to function as an effective athletic trainer in a community program/college or university athletic program.
2. Knowledge of methods, practices, terminology, and techniques used in athletic training activities, including the prevention of injuries.
3. Knowledge of athletic injuries, applicable treatment, and first-aid methods.
4. Knowledge of various types of therapeutic treatment, equipment end conditioning programs.
5. Ability to utilize interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy to maintain cooperative relationships with all constituencies.
6. Knowledge to operate rehabilitation equipment and modalities.
7. Ability to develop and implement a program for the prevention of injuries to athletes.
8. Ability to prepare inventory/budgets for first-aid, medical supplies, and equipment.
9. Ability to understand and work within the scope of authority; maintain/prepare records and reports, and utilize word processing and database software applications.
10. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
11. Passed the annual CCCAA rules exam with an 80% or higher score.

Benefits:

1.  Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full-year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school- term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.

2.  New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).
