Job Description

Project: Distributed Antenna Systems Project

Under general direction, the 5241 Electrical Engineer works in the Distribution Engineering group and is focused in providing engineering support to other groups within Power Enterprise.

The Engineer will be called upon to performs engineering tasks related to electric distribution and service design, streetlight design, and capital project planning.

The Engineer is expected to provide interconnection support services for SFPUC streetlight, electric service, and natural gas customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Administer the Distribution Antennae Systems (DAS) Master License Agreement, SFPUC’s Pole use agreements, and other agreements which allow third parties to attach to SFPUC’s owned utility poles; track pole use agreements.
  • Analyze and solve complex engineering and process related problems, including coordinating with third-party that wish to utilize SFPUC’s infrastructure.
  • Supervise and monitor the inspection of a wide variety of major and complex engineering projects; meet with customers and coordinate construction schedules; conduct site assessments and performs field inspections. Organize and supervises the activities of field staff.
  • Provides technical assistance, operational guidance, and engineering support for the operation and maintenance of City-owned and operated distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Review and analyze PG&E service contracts for new and existing City facilities in accordance with the applicable tariffs and codes, the Franchise Agreement, and PG&E’s Wholesale Distribution Tariff.
  • Plan, analyze and create engineering designs, drawings and specifications for customer interconnection to the City-owned electric distribution system;  ensure compliance with technical requirements and project objectives. Prepares cost estimates of labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Reviewing federal, regional and local regulations and legislation affecting engineering work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Five (5) years of verifiable professional electrical engineering experience, which includes two (2) years’ experience equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco’s class 5207 Associate Engineer as a licensed Professional Engineer in the specialty you are applying for; AND
  2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Electrical Engineering.

Desirable Qualifications:

-       Recent and verifiable experience working on and around utility power transmission and/or distribution systems, control systems and associated components up to 230 kv.

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

Substitution: Candidates licensed in other states, who otherwise meet the minimum requirements of this announcement, but do not possess the required California license, may file for this examination, and if successful, will be placed under waiver on the resulting eligible list until the required California license is presented.
