Job Description

The Recreationist reports to the Senior Recreationist and conducts recreation activities with groups at the Day Centre. The Recreationist also organizes and promote activities, while taking into account the needs and interests of the clients. 

We are looking for: 1 Full-Time Contract Position for a Recreationist

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Job Location: Circle of Care Adult Day Program for Seniors at 1600 Steeles Ave West, Vaughan

Located in Southern York Region, The Day Centre for Seniors is a partnership between Circle of Care and Baycrest, and is funded by the Central LHIN (Local Health Integration Network). This program helps to divert and delay admission to long-term care by providing therapeutic, social, recreational and Jewish programming to seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as those aging with developmental disabilities and dementia. Services are delivered by a diverse team of health care providers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with the team to support client goals and intervention plans.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on case management and review
• Communicate feedback from and/or about the client to the team
• Implement recreation programs to meet clients needs and interests based on assessments
• Identify and access relevant resources to achieve program goals (adaptive devices, financial resources, transportation, etc.)
• Contribute to ongoing evaluations of program service delivery and outcomes
• Coordinate with students, volunteers and other recreationists
• Plan and oversee special events

Qualifications

• Completion of two (2) years community college in Recreation or Activation, or equivalent
• Professional member in good standing with either Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) or Activity Professionals of Ontario (APO)
• Basic Cardiac Life Support Certified.
• Experience working with frail and impaired elderly and their families
• Experience working with seniors who have Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
• Experience in recreational programming for seniors.
• Basic computer and writing skills.
• Clear communication skills.
• Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Current CPR training would be an asset
• Additional language skills would be an asset (e.g. Russian, Hebrew)
