Job Description

About the Power Plant Engineer Role:

The Power Plant Engineer role is an integral part of the Engineering department at the San Diego Site. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support for the repair and overhaul of gas turbine engine programs to ensure final deliverable is a quality product and meets contractual obligations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing work repair plans for engines and components undergoing repair/overhaul.
  • Developing engineering methods & procedures to optimize engine performance and existing repairs.
  • Support the training of mechanics and operators as needed to perform maintenance on Gas turbine engines.
  • Writing detailed investigation reports; suggest improvement to production and quality control techniques.
  • Controlling and Managing ERP system as it relates to engine work scopes and configuration management.
  • Monitoring and influencing the technical and schedule progress of project tasks, proactively identifying risks and issues, and recommending solutions.
  • Controlling and managing all necessary tooling for the gas turbine engines including designs, modeling, fabrication, revisions, and database upkeep.
  • Evaluate published technical data for applicability to shop procedures and develop/revise procedures as necessary to ensure reliable, quality products.
  • Review, evaluate and implement technical changes such as service bulletins and / or modifications.
  • Provides interpretation and clarification of overhaul technical data to include, Unit build standards, Engineering bill of materials, and documentation to support operational repair and overhaul processes.
  • Evaluate & introduce lean and six sigma development methodologies to improve efficiency.
  • Design, develop, test, and analyze advanced technology gas turbine components and systems considering cost, performance, operability, reliability.
  • Support quality control in investigations of customer complaints and analyze causes for engine or component failures.
  • Perform work in a safe manner and adhere to safety programs, processes, and procedures set forth for the specific process and for company safety programs in general.
  • Achieve and strive for highest quality standards in work.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

If you have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering and at least 4 years of experience in in a fast paced, collaborative Power Plant Engineer role, joining Chromalloy is a great career move! In addition to your education & experience, as a team player you will also have the following skills:

  • Familiarity with gas turbine engine principles including test cell, vibration and failure analysis, and general engine overhaul and repair procedures.
  • Five (5) plus years related to turbine engine/aircraft overhaul and aviation maintenance engineering.
  • Experience performing maintenance on aircraft jet or gas turbine engines and components.
  • Ability to accurately interpret blueprints and/or work in-process documents. 
  • Ability to write and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to maintain production standards/quality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to speak to members across all levels of the organization.
  • FAA Powerplant License is highly desirable.

Salary Range: $80,800-$121,200
