Job Description

JOB SUMMARY & FUNCTIONS:

Process simple to complex inspections utilizing the existing programs on a computer assisted coordinate measuring (CMM) machines for inspection and program parts that do not have an existing program. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set-up and run CMM programs 
  • Work from process sheets and instructions from supervisor
  • Procure appropriate blueprints and layout sheets 
  • Uses Wenzel BI-1200, Wenzel LH-1512, & a Sheffield Measurement Cordax RS-170 DCC. CMM’s with 1 MM to 5 MM styluses in addition to standard clamps and fixtures for locating parts on the table. 
  • Calibrate stylus and enter in computer appropriate program number
  • When the job is completed, stamp inspection report, staple to process traveler and sign off where appropriate on traveler
  • Write simple to complex computerized measuring machine (CMM) programs for all products and submit a detailed report of all results to engineering and manufacturing
  • Follow prescribed procedures to shut down CMM equipment at the end of the shift.  Ensure that CMM’s are running at peak performance and that all required maintenance is performed on schedule.  Work closely with engineering on new products
  • Detect faulty operations and faulty material and report these and any other problems to immediate supervisor
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on machines and in work area
  • Comply with all safety regulations
  • Wear necessary protective equipment as required

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all other similar or related duties as required and/or directed within own or other work areas.

Physical Demand:

  •  Little physical demand occasionally lifting or moving lightweight material.

Mental or Visual Demand:

  • Concentrated mental and visual attention in laying out complex work to very close limits of high accuracy and quality.

Working Conditions:

  • Good shop working conditions.  Exposed to any number of elements, but none present to the extent of being disagreeable.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Over 3 years preferred
  • Equivalent to a complete accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft or occupation; or equivalent to a 2-year technical college education.
  • Use of conceptual judgment to work independently on complex projects, to devise methods and procedures to meet unusual conditions and to make original contributions to the solution of complex problems.
  • Use of advanced trades mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, personal computer and software application programs of a technical nature involving a through technical skills knowledge plus the application of basic theory. 
  • A strong understanding and working experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is required.
