Job Description

RT / FPI Level II

Have the skill and knowledge to set up and standardize equipment, process radiographs, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document result.  Have the skill and knowledge to conduct system performance checks in accordance with process standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) Level II

  • Selects work to be processed per production’s instructions and processes parts as per technique instructions.
  •  Interprets articles to established specifications and standards.
  • Checks to make sure previous paperwork has been completed and signed off and ensures that paperwork matches parts to be inspected.
  • Completes all required paperwork.
  •  Drafts techniques to assist Level III as needed
  • Performs daily equipment preparation.

 

Industrial X-ray (RT) Operator, Level II

  • Selects work to be processed per production’s instructions and processes parts as per technique instructions.
  • Interprets radiographs to customer specifications and established standards
  • Checks to make sure previous paperwork has been completed and signed off and ensures that paperwork matches parts to be inspected.
  •  Completes all required paperwork
  • Drafts techniques to assist Level III as needed.
  • Monitors working area to protect personnel.  Performs daily equipment preparation and radiation safety inspections.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • FPI Level II:
  •  
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent in life experience.
  •  2 years of experience as a Level II in FPI preferred.
  • Casting experience strongly preferred
  • Aerospace industry experience preferred

.Industrial X-ray Operator, Level II:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent in life experience.
  • 2 years of experience as a Level II in RT preferred.
  • Casting experience strongly preferred.
  • Aerospace industry experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

Certified or qualified to be certified to NAS 410 Level II RT / PT inspector.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read comprehend, and interpret documents such as simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Apply concepts of basic arithmetic and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection, Level I Must have completed or be willing and able to complete 32 hours minimum organized training plus 400 hours minimum work experience in industrial radiography. 
  • Successful completion of three qualification examinations with a minimum average score of 80% as required by industry standards NAS-410 (This allows achievement of Level II Certification)

 Industrial X-ray Operator, Level I

  • Must have completed or be willing and able to complete 80 hours minimum organized training plus 800 hours minimum work experience in industrial radiography. 
  • Successful completion of three qualification examinations with a minimum average score of 80% as required by industry standards NAS-410 (This allows achievement of Level II Certification).

 OTHER QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Industrial X-ray / FPI Operator, Level II:

  • Must pass near vision-JAEGER Type No. 1 test and Color Perception test
  • Must be able to maintain certification with periodic testing per industry standards.

Specific vision abilities required by this job are defined by NAS 410 and include close vision, the ability to distinguish between colors.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to non-toxic vapors or airborne particles.

  • Hearing protection is required.
  • Safety shoes are required.
  • Safety glasses are required.

Industrial X-ray Operator, Level II

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment. 
  • The employee is exposed to risk of radiation; however, actual exposure potential is highly unlikely. Less than 2 mR / hr
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
  • Safety shoes are required.
