Job Description

Position Summary

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations for the organization. This includes managing financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, internal controls and oversight of accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in non-profit healthcare accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to achieve the organization's financial goals.

Essential Duties

  • Financial Management:
  • Oversee all accounting operations including Payroll, Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Allocations, Fixed Assets, Investments, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Compliance and Internal Controls:
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Audit and Reporting:
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Lead the annual audit process, coordinate with external auditors, and assess any changes necessary.
  • Provide financial reports and interpret financial information to managerial staff while recommending further courses of action.
  • Supervision & Team Leadership:
  • Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
  • Ensure that the finance team is trained and adequately skilled.Evaluate and manage performance, providing leadership and development opportunities.
  • Strategic Planning:
  • Assist the CFO in financial strategy and planning.
  • Provide insights into financial performance and contribute to business development and strategic initiatives.
  • Support the organization's mission by ensuring financial sustainability and integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of non-profit healthcare accounting standards and regulations.
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, NetSuite) and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience overseeing payroll function and payroll database (preferably UKG/Kronos or similar HRIS/Payroll database)
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities with a track record of mentoring and developing teams.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
