Job Description

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Controller, the Payroll Manager is responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day functions of the Payroll department.  Responsibilities include payroll, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, journal entries, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations and audit preparation.

Essential Duties

  • Works closely with the Organization’s supervising Directors and managed clients to ensure time records and invoices are processed timely and accurately.
  • Provides support to manage the resolution of payroll and accounts payable problems for Directors in the form of coaching, training or other types of support as needed.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with payroll policies and procedures and regularly audits workforce practices to make sure that team member actions conform to policies and regulations.  Recommends changes to policies and practices as needed.
  • Adheres to the strict confidentiality of payroll records, pay rate information and other wage related employee issues.
  • Establishes a system of deadlines to ensure all company liabilities are paid in a timely manner and in accordance with the law.
  • Ensures that the management, distribution and accuracy of annual W2’s and 1099’s is done within the required period as governed by the law.
  • Provides subject matter expertise, training, information and support to CLS management clients, to include the ability to counsel clients on relevant local and state wage and hour laws.
  • Stays abreast and aware of new laws and regulations regarding payroll and Accounts Payable issues.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, orienting, and evaluating the Accounts Payable Coordinator. Processes payables in the absence of the Coordinator.
  • Performs bank reconciliations for operating, payroll, security deposits and in some cases investment accounts.
  • Assists in preparation of financial statements for the Organization; periodically audits assets and liability accounts for balance accuracy.  Prepares and posts journal entries for assigned communities.
  • Assists with preparing schedules and other reports for the year-end audit.  Works with the Controller to complete all schedules for all communities as requested by auditors.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the accounts payable and payroll function, either directly or through accounting staff.
  • Supports the training and education of individuals or groups on topics related to payroll and accounts payable.
  • Responsible for encouraging, participating and integrating Masterpiece Living and Eden Alternative initiatives by supporting successful again and person-centered programs and culture.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma;  Associate degree in accounting preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience in payroll; Certified Payroll Professional preferred.  Expertise in Colorado wage and hour FLSA and other local, state and federal payroll regulations.
  • Ability to process high volume transactions while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintains composure under pressure and demonstrates reliability.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.  Solid interpersonal skills to effectively interact at all levels and across functions.
  • Prior management experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Most possess excellent customer service skills.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Sits, stands, bends and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Must possess a Colorado driver’s license in good standing. Job may require occasional travel in and outside the state. 
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Frequently interacts with relevant stakeholders including team members, applicants, hiring managers, developers, consultants, brokers.
