Job Description

The Learning Specialist is a full-time position that operates under the supervision of the Director of Counseling to provide support to students, faculty, and staff as academic needs arise.  The Learning Specialist works individually with students and provides guidance and expertise to faculty, developing academic plans that promote success in and out of the classroom.

Essential Functions

Meet regularly with all students in assigned caseload

Serve as student's first point of contact for academic counseling needs

Monitor the academic progress of all students within caseload 

Respond to student and parent requests for support

Work collaboratively with teachers, staff and administration to assist with student/teacher concerns

Assist students with accessing academic support resources and provide skill training to support academic and personal achievement

Maintain student counselee files

Coordinate standardized test accommodations

Coordinate student review meetings and parent/teacher conferences

Assist teachers in the identification and response to students with academic needs

Provide standardized test interpretation to students and parents

Coordinate student, parent, and teacher presentations to provide guidance on strategies for promoting student success/learning strategies

Assist in the academic planning and scheduling of students

Regularly review and update student academic plans and student transcripts

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in special education with a strong knowledge base in identifying and accommodating learning differences. Ideal candidates will have at least three to five years of high school teaching experience, an understanding of differentiated instruction, a flexible and team-oriented approach, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
