• Process all claims related to shipment or quality of fruit from beginning to end and ensure that proper document is maintained for each claim.
• Investigating claims, analyzing evidence, assessing legal liability, determining strategy, defending claims, helping the negotiation and settlement.
• Liaising with all departments (legal, quality, logistics, etc) and external parties involved (local authorities, cargo or vessel owners, ports administration and insurers including with their lawyers).
• Develop best practices to optimize claim processing quality. Develop SOP as necessary.
• Provide proactive recommendation internally to decrease future claims and avoid future damage.
• Follow and provide guidance related to policies and regulations of port, carriers, and industry standards.
• Review of shipping contracts or other related documents.

• Bachelor’s degree in law; or Certificate or Diploma from a professional or business/Law school with experience.
• At least 3 years’ experience in claim department of a shipping company or insurance company dealing with claim related to freight or shipping of perishable products.
• Extensive knowledge of shipping/freight issues and trade documentation.
• Expertise in international maritime regulations/legislations.
• Familiar with legal concepts, commercial law, insurance policy, freight and port agreements and container lease agreements and related legislation.
• Proficiency skills in Excel spreadsheets and Power point presentations.
• Excellent negotiation skills.
• Ability to work as part of a multicultural cross functional team.
• Proficiency in both written and verbal English is a must.  Spanish or other European languages would be an asset.
