This role is for our Amsterdam office and requires candidates to live in the Netherlands.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Finance controller to join our team, helping grow Cheddar and accomplish our vision of making payments better for everyone. You will play an important part in Cheddar's success by working directly with senior management to guide financial management, planning and reporting obligations, business forecasting, and develop strategic analysis around key decisions and investments.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation of operating budgets, oversee financial reporting including the creation and submission of financial statements, and perform essential duties relating to payroll.
  • Monitor and report variances, summarise trends and investigate budget deficiencies, communicating effectively with senior management.
  • Manage the company’s working capital with management of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and bank reconciliations.
  • Help guide adoption of Cheddar as the primary payment solution for our customers
  • Support strategic decisions, including projects on pricing design and analysis, customer behaviour analysis and economics, LTV / ROI of marketing efforts, market/competitive landscape benchmarking, and other data-driven analysis
  • Partner with Product, Operations, Compliance, Legal and other teams to support new product development and help guide the business
  • Execute financial models to help inform strategic partnership negotiations to accelerate growth of products
  • Support the financial planning process for our teams; including building/maintaining operating and financial models, and managing investment budgets for teams to ensure they have resource allocations to invest properly behind key initiatives
  • Report and analyse results and communicate important takeaways to senior team members within Management Accounts and on ad-hoc basis, including identifying opportunities or risks
  • Prepare analysis and support communication to product leaders, board members and executive staff
  • Develop financial models to help inform strategic partnership negotiations to accelerate growth of payments ecosystem
  • Ensure Cheddar meets its accounting and regulatory financial reporting requirements
  • Support the financial planning process for our teams; including building/maintaining operating and financial models, and managing investment budgets for teams to ensure they have resource allocations to invest properly behind key initiatives
  • Report and analyse results and communicate important takeaways to senior team members, including identifying opportunities or risks
  • Prepare analysis and support communication to product leaders, board members and executive staff
  • Liaise with external investors pre and post investment rounds

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience within strategic finance, finance & strategy, or similar, preferably at a tech company, with excellent financial modelling skills
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or other relevant field is preferred but not essential.
  • AAT/ACA/CA/ACCA qualification/part-qualification would be advantageous
  • Excellent proficiency in financial modelling, experience building well-structured and error-free Excel (or similar) models that include complex functions (there will be a case study)
  • Experience with SQL and data visualisation tools (such as Looker or Tableau) is preferred, but can be taught.
  • Experience conducting industry and competitor research
  • Expertise in navigating the UK and Netherlands accounting and business finance landscape (a deep understanding of both is preferred, yet a deep understanding of one and a working knowledge of the other is also acceptable).
